Supporter Spotlight - Charley Conrad

There are volunteers who do what’s asked and those that go above and beyond the call of duty and will do anything asked.  Charley Conrad is one of those volunteers you can count on to do anything asked.

You can find Charley in our Arlington Office every single day.  You’ll find him at his desk diligently reaching out to voters, through phone banking or hitting the streets to help with canvassing.  He also has taken on the role of organizing all of Arlington for workers at the polls.  This means juggling hundreds of volunteers on election day making sure precincts are covered with people to get that last minute word out about Brian Moran.  It’s our volunteers like Charley that will make Brian Moran the Democratic nominee for Governor on June 9^th.

Supporter Spotlight - Todd Smyth

Todd has been there since the beginning, it seems.  Always willing to help out, Todd has been one of the hardest workers of this campaign and his ranking on our Organize Virginia leader board shows it.  An active blogger and field volunteer, Todd has kept the energy going for numerous groups with accounts of his daily activities and what he’s seeing on the ground.  He makes hundreds of calls a day, either from one of our offices or utilizing our online call tool.

A conservative estimate has Todd making at least a couple thousand calls a week and has contacted well into the tens of thousands of individuals total.  All this while being active online through blogging and commenting on various websites.

Todd is a dedicated volunteer that’s been working hard since the beginning.  His enthusiasm for making Brian the next Governor of the Commonwealth is motivating for all of us, and we are grateful for his outstanding commitment.

Supporter Spotlight - It’s Down to the Buzzer

Public Policy Polling released a new poll Tuesday showing what we all know; this will be a close race.  But we know the poll undervalues the voting power of Northern Virginia where Brian holds a commanding lead.  We’re within a week until the June 9^th primary and it’s all hands on deck.  We’re asking you to stand up with all the people who’ve already bled for this campaign, and volunteer.

We’re asking you to hold nothing back between now and election day.  We need you to join the hundreds of volunteers who have already made tens of thousands of phone calls and knocked on just as many doors.  When people hear about Brian they vote for him, that’s why we need you to join our already impressive volunteer effort.

It’s down to the wire and we need you to join the over 100 elected officials who’ve endorsed Brian.  We need you to join the hundreds of grassroots leaders who have stood up with Brian.  It’s time to put it all on the table and go all out.  We’ll make tens of thousands of calls between now and Tuesday, and knock on just as many doors.  We need you to help put us over the top.  Volunteer today.

Join Me in the Race

A few weeks ago I had the chance to be back in Fairfax County, where I was raised, to run in a 5k race with my daughter. The race is part of Girls On the Run, a character building and self esteem program for girls in the 3^rd through 5^th grades. (girlsontherunofnova.org) As coach for my daughter’s team, I help teach how setting good goals and working hard pays off.

There were over 6000 people running in the race at Fair Oaks Mall, but because I’ve been campaigning and traveling with Brian’s campaign so much, I haven’t had much time to train and exercise myself – at least not nearly as much as I should have to run a 5k! And so while the girls were doing great, I was ill prepared for the race and I can tell you it was the longest 3.1 miles I have ever run.  However, I committed to our daughter that I would run this race with her and we did it.  In fact we crossed the finish line holding hands.  And it occurred to me as we ran that last half mile and the people were cheering and we were crossing that finish line together, holding hands, that our daughter embodies her father’s vision and ideals for this Commonwealth.  You see, it would have been easy for her to run ahead and leave me behind, but she didn’t… she helped me get across, too.  And Brian will not leave anyone behind either.  He won’t leave the 200,000 children who don’t have health care behind, or the families who have no dental care behind or the families who are struggling in this very difficult economy. He will not leave these people behind because he is the one who has been fighting for them all of them the past twenty years. I added 10 minutes to her race time because I was slower….she ran next to me the entire time. But we both got there.  Brian has been running with the hardworking families in our Commonwealth for 20 years, leading the way on the environment, education, and putting people back to work.

I know you have a choice in candidates on June 9^th, but please know that we ask for your vote and are humbled by your support. Let’s get to the finish line on June 9^th together, so that all Virginians can share opportunity and make VA a better place to work, live and raise a family.

Supporter Spotlight – Do you see what our volunteers see?

A new SurveyUSA poll was released today showing Brian dominating his two primary opponents in the NOVA region.  This backs up what our tens of thousands of calls have told us, voters are getting behind Brian Moran for Governor.  This latest poll also shows Brian as the only Democratic candidate who beats Bob McDonnell.

Virginians are showing their support by contributing what they can.  We raised more money in this less-than-two-month-period than the previous three or six before that.  And the money was from Virginians, which 94% of it came from.

Our offices are filling up with volunteers but we could use your help!  It’s a week to go, volunteer today, and help us get the word out to the Virginians still making up their minds.  Then June 9^th we get them out to vote for Brian Moran to be our Democratic nominee for Governor.
